Stuart, Which log file is showing the below errors. I've checked the ones in /var/log and I don't see any errors. Greg
Hmmmm, I am also struggling with this.
I have the line commented out in xdm-config.
Running 'X -query host1' works when run from a Linux command prompt, so it looks like XDMCP is working alright. When I try 'Xwin -query host1' on the Windows side, I get the grey screen, but also a couple of error messages on the Linux server:
Date-Time host1 kdm [6498]: server open failed for 0.0.0.0:0, giving up Date-Time host1 kdm [637]: Display 0.0.0.0:0 cannot be opened
This seems to give credence to the theory of setting the DISPLAY variable, but at what point should it be set for the Xwin command to work ? Can it be set in one of the X11 config files on the Cygwin side of things ?
Thanks, Stuart.

Yes, that works great. I haven't had a chance to look at SuSE 8.0 yet, but if it's like previous releases, XDMCP or Chooser enquiries are _not_ accepted by default. Check for /var/X11R6/lib/xdm/xdm-config (assuming 8.0 is the same) and comment out the line "DisplayManager.requestPort: 0" thusly:
!DisplayManager.requestPort: 0
Couldn't run too many large Win apps at the same time, or things seemed to run a bit short on memory.
Does that work for you against a SuSE box? It is actually the first thing I tried, but it did not work.
All I get is a blank X-window display with no windows, thus I used the other method.
My server is running SuSE 8.0 with a pretty vanilla setup.
I would far prefer to get the above working, but I'm not really sure how to start troubleshooting it.
I tried setting the DISPLAY variable manually before the above line, but it did not help. <snip>
