What are metalinks for the repositories, as are mentioned in the link below ?

Can they be enabled (or added as repos) in Yast --> Software --> Repositories ? Is there an advantage/disadvantage to using metalinks instead of standard repo links ?
Hi Jay,
Here is few articles on openSUSE wiki about metalinks and its usage.
http://en.opensuse.org/Metalinks http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/Redirector#Built-in%20Metalink%20suppor... http://en.opensuse.org/Libzypp/Failover
The most important part is client program aria2c . http://en.opensuse.org/Aria2c
Rajko, Thanks for the weblinks. There is a GUI front-end for aria2 also, called "aria2fe".
You can use it with zypper. For instance: ZYPP_ARIA2C=1 zypper up to make zypper to use aria2c instead of curl. Though, be aware that is not yet advertised as user ready, but it worked for me. The aria2c is a bit aggressive with number of connections, but that should be already fixed in factory.
The ( http://en.opensuse.org/Libzypp/Failover) page speaks of enabling aria2c by default for YaST/zypper everytime an update /install is done. How can one do this ? (I am not sure of the instructions on the webpage).
