Is it worth it to get a unit capable of Blu Ray? Last time I looked, write media was very expensive, and people were having problems writing to them in Linux. Is it still true?
I use a Pioneer BDR-209DBK for burning. No problems with HTL and LTH Disk. But not a cheap device...
Blu ray? I don't think I saw that brand in my quick search.
I use K3b but have to use cdrecord (cdrtools) for burning http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/apps/openSUSE_13.2/ http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/libs/openSUSE_13.2/
Yes, that's not strange.
As media I use "Vertatim Data Live Plus" (HTL) for backup purpose (expensive, about 1€ each) and cheap LTH for all other non important things.
If it is Blu ray, it is not expensive. If it is DVD, I use verbatim myself, but not that one. Verbatim#43500, the label says. AZO. There is a web pages that does comparisons of brands; let me see... <http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm> and also: <http://adterrasperaspera.com/blog/2006/10/30/how-to-choose-cddvd-archival-media/> There is a program that can identify the real brand of media. The first link explains about it. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
