Remote upgrade

Anyone else tried upgrading a remote server? I recently finished upgrading one of my remote servers from 6.4 to 7.1, but it was a difficult exercise using rdist to upload a locally upgraded mirror of the remote, to an empty partition on the remote, then making adjustments and rebooting. It was tense, rebooting the remote after making many changes. I was wondering if anyone has better techniques. Egan
