hwinfo shows me now several devices which belong to the old board which I threw out like 1,5 years ago.
UNTESTED! Just guessing (have a look at the file dates): Clean out /var/lib/hardware. That seems to be where hwinfo stores and looks up stuff.
--dump-db N Dump hardware data base. N is either 0 for the external data base in /var/lib/hardware, or 1 for the internal data base.
With my "cluttered" /var/lib/hardware, 'hwinfo --dump-db 1' gives tons of stuff I never had nor have, and 'hwinfo --dump-db 0' is just empty (oS 11.2/64bit). /var/lib/hardware/udi (0)# grep devicename * 3OOL.WgO3KLLqcj3:hwinfo.devicename = 'WD20EADS-32S' 7bWa.l0T5pgsnYz4:hwinfo.devicename = 'External' 9+fx.SIhGMjgPl8F:hwinfo.devicename = 'ST31500341AS' Fe9p.o1KYNOnfk+2:hwinfo.devicename = 'HD753LJ' KD9E.SguOYq8Wtn7:hwinfo.devicename = 'DVD-RAM GH22NP20' LHfg.3FTc8hfQ718:hwinfo.devicename = 'ST31500341AS' Rw8Y.y6KBobuCi5C:hwinfo.devicename = 'ST31500341AS' WZeP.PIAjnfacA76:hwinfo.devicename = 'HD103UJ' _kuT.Hc06J0vLTBD:hwinfo.devicename = 'HD103UJ' cAw+.1W4gr_cyUr6:hwinfo.devicename = 'ST31500341AS' ipPt.5QKFVXd6Ep6:hwinfo.devicename = 'HD154UI' u5Pc.E_kLlymQtA0:hwinfo.devicename = 'HD103UJ' All of those here have a mtime of 'Apr 8 2010' BTW (which was about the time where I preinstalled the 11.1 (or 11.2 already?) on the external-disk attached to the other box). # lsscsi [0:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG HD501LJ CR10 /dev/sda [1:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG HD204UI 1AQ1 /dev/sdb [2:0:0:0] disk ATA ST31500341AS CC1H /dev/sdc [3:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG HD203WI 1AN1 /dev/sdd [4:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG HD203WI 1AN1 /dev/sde [5:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG HD203WI 1AN1 /dev/sdf [8:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG HD204UI 1AQ1 /dev/sdg [9:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG HD204UI 1AQ1 /dev/sdh [15:0:0:0] process Marvell 91xx Config 1.01 - [18:0:0:0] cd/dvd HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20 1.00 /dev/sr0 [18:0:1:0] disk ATA WDC WD5000AVJB-6 05.0 /dev/sdi Yes, the DVD-Writer actually _was_ moved to this box ;) I just completely removed the 'udi' subfolder, let's see if I find any adverse effects ;) *runs a 'hwinfo --storage'* ... no 'udi'-subdir reappeared. I'll write if anything untoward happens ;) At first glance, the udi seems to be created at install-time and store (only) (storage) devices present at that time. The stuff I just removed was just about that what was present as storage when I installed the 11.1 (c.f. above) on the disk that now runs in the new box. hwinfo also looks in 'unique-keys', but (was and is) empty here. HTH, YMMV, etc. -dnh PS: Yep, the 2 HD204UI needing it have updated firmware, the newest already came with the corrected FW (manufacturing date after 12/2010). Getting the FW-Update-Tool to run under FreeDOS from an USB-Stick was not easy (conflicted with EMM386.EXE and/or my usual DOS-Settings from years ago, apparently) and the drives had to be on the onboard-Controller. Well, with SATA, that's much more painless to achieve than with PATA drives ;) If anyone needs help doing the same, just mail me (here[0] or via PM).
