This last time I booted three times and it finally allowed fsck.reiserfs and mount. df now shows 1 /media/usbdrive
Instead of rebooting, why don't you just restart the hotplug system, rchotplug restart ??? Thanks for the sugession Patrick
However, that has never worked. I have unplugged the drive, allowed lsub not to show it and then re-plugged it in. Then as you mentioned with some success.
rchotplug is the same as /etc/init.d/hotplug (which is what I use) without any benefit
I have also checked lsmod to confirm usb_storage is in the list.
NOTE: Subject began as a list discussion. I have fully quoted your off-list reply. a. remove device b. as root, rchotplug restart c. replace device d. as root, rchotplug restart normally, just an rchotplug-restart is sufficient but I have had to go as above on occasion. You must wait for the restart to complete before the next step. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery
