My first calculator was a "four banger", basic arithmetic, no memory, fixed point. It cost $150, back in 1975.
I don't remember how much ours was, same type. A Sharp, green fluorescent numbers. My father bought it during a trip to the UK, cheaper than here.
and now use a calculator app called "RealCalc" on my Android phone.
I just downloaded it. Too complex. The one on my Motorola is way to simple (no memory), but realcalc is exceedingly complex.
However, I still have a slide rule in my desk drawer, just in case... ;-)
I have two big, one small, from my father and his uncle, I think. I just know how to do multiplications and divisions on it. I didn't use it in school just for a few years, calculators were starting to be accessible. The military trainees still had to use slide rules in case batteries failed in battle or some thing, for some years more. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
