Hey Gang, Attempting to FTP install SuSE 7.0 on ten brand new Micron PC's (AMD Athlon 1.2GHz) using the 3Com Etherlink (3c905c) NIC. When I select the "3c59x : 3Com 3c59x/3c90x (592/595/597)" kernel module it loads just fine, however cannot get the card to communicate over the LAN. We select NO on the 'Automatic Configuration via bootp', specify the hardwired IP, netmask, gateway, nameserver, and FTP server. We use anonymous FTP since were behind a firewall, and we don't use an FTP proxy. Yast attempts to connect to our FTP server, with no success. It fails with: "Error while accessing the FTP server: Failed to connect to FTP server" There are also no error messages on the ASCII screens of Alt/F3 and Alt/F4. The FTP server syslog shows no activity, during the failure. I also cannot ping the client with the hardcoded IP given it. We know the hardware/FTP server and process works with HP and LinkSys NIC's, but we cannot get it to work with 3Com NICs. We have switched over to LinkSys NIC cards temporarily just to get them to boot up, however we cannot continue to use the LinkSys cards long term. And we would like to come up with a hardware (NIC) solution for large quantity installs, preferably with the 3Com cards, as that is what Micron ships all their PC's out with. I have three questions: 1. How can I add/update the 'Modules' file system image myself, with the correct 3Com drivers for the 3c905c NIC card? 2. How can I load a stand alone Linux driver for a NIC from the manufacturers web site, during a Yast1/FTP install process? 3. If #1 and #2 cannot be accomplished, how do I get SuSE to include the correct drivers for the 3Com 3c905c NIC cards, in their 'Modules' file system image? Best Regards, John Griffin
