The problem is with your cdrom drive - samsung - as it's not atapi compliant so it won't work.
Curious! It's true I don't know the model number of what Bob Dixon
has,
but my computer came with (and I quote /var/log/boot.msg): hdd: SAMSUNG CD-ROM SCR-2432, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive. It works very well, but then I don't have a new Pentium, have an old AMD...
From my /var/log/boot.msg:
hdc: SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-152L, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
From the Samsung website (http://www.samsungelectronics.com/odd/cdrom/sc_152l.html)
Interface: EIDE/ATAPI Yast2 has no problem reading CD1 to do the initial install, it just has a problem dynamically mounting the other CDs it needs. As I said before, I can also manually mount the CD once I'm booted and read from them with no problem. This line is also from my boot.msg: (4) ide1: BM-DMA at 0xfc08-0xfc0f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio Do you thing turning off DMA in the BIOS might help? Thx, Bob
