Some src.rpms isn't a release, I'm sure they'll be trying to get the sets out to people first ... and I suspect Anders may have been slightly tongue-in-cheek, a 'little compiling' might turn into days, I'd have thought.
I doubt it, unless you plan on compiling absolutely everything. I don't think it would take any longer than an average gentoo install, or around 5-8 hours or so. Depends on your hardware, naturally The trick is to compile things in the right order though
