Hi Wolfi,
Thanks for your reply. I'll read the info and look at the hpoj lists that you recommended. I have an OfficeJet K60xi and I'm using the lpr spooler. Are you suggesting that CUPS is easier to deal with than lprold? I'll give it a try also.
Well, I don't think you can generalize. I heard of many people on this list, who prefer cups. I ran into strange troubles with lprold and a normal DeskJet printer some time ago, tried cups then and it worked. So, I am using cups since that day. But ... your mileage may vary, as we always say:-)
Regards.
OK, there is neither a driver for the K series, nor for the V series available in SuSE 7.3, I just had a look in my YaST2. This makes matters worse:-) The Linuxprinting info site for your OJ is: http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-OfficeJet_K60 and a cups driver should be found here: http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=hpijs This makes a new issue arise:-( This driver is a hpijs one, and you need to compile your own version of ghostscript to include hpijs. This will hopefully be included by default in SuSE 8.0, since the hpijs interface will replace several other, older drivers. Btw, such a driver is a ppd.gz file to be stored in the /usr/share/cups/model/HP directory, then it is also to be seen in YaST2. The instructions for compiling hpijs into ghostscript used to be there: http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/install.php#verifyghost I don't know if you can make the OJ work using a different driver, a driver for a similar DeskJet e.g. - this might be worth a try, but I can't tell you for sure. Anyway, my 'solution' for my OfficeJet V30 is, that I bought a new toner cartridge for an old spare printer, I'm using this in the meantime, and will restart the OJ fight with 8.0, for the sake of family peace:-) Cheers ...
