I encountered this a few months ago while running Factory and upgrading to KDE 4.4. In short, KAddressbook is in the midst of a transition dependent upon Akonadi. Completion is scheduled for 4.5. The data is all still there, but the structure has changed, making it inaccessible for now.
Needless to say,
is to manually

4.3.5. Fwiw, Fedora and Kubuntu have the same issue.
The details are here (along with a few temper tantrums), including the tarball replacement with instructions:
I've just upgraded to oS 11.3 + KDE4.4. I use Kontact for e-mail, addresses etc. and I've got several mail lists set up based on categories. These mail lists are still available in Kmail, but I cannot find how to add a category to a person's entry in the new look Address Book.
Has it gone, or am I looking in the wrong
Or is there another way to select contacts to add to a mail
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=233078 I built "legacy kaddressbook" vs the rest of kdepim 4.4 in the OBS at home:wstephenson:branches:KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop - it's currently based on 4.4.1 but I can update if there is demand - last time I brought it up nobody raised their hands. Will place? list?
