Say when a user logs in, he opens openoffice. Most of his files are kept on the network samba share. If he wants to open other openoffice files he wont open them through explorer but from with the application --->File > Open ....
There is no way to open files from a network share WITHIN a application in Linux [except for mounting them in a local folder or through Kounquerer(spell?)...]
Yes users even copy-paste files from with-in the application !! They have their application ruuning all day (say autocad or excel) and they wont bother to open Explorer unless it needed.
Which version is on the live cd? I just tried with SuSE 9.3 and OO 2.0-pre and had no problem getting to a file on a samba/XP share. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998
