Subject: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Connection Problems
Hello Everyone: I just bought a copy of SuSE 4.4.1. and after a successful initial install <grin>, i still have the same problem that i have under Slackware: I cannot connect to my isp. Under Win95, i can't even connect using hyper terminal (the wife uses Wank95, on a hd all her own)
Say what?? If you can't connect using Hyperterminal something looks seriously wrong somewhere. When you dial in you should get a login prompt followed by a password prompt, and that should start the ppp garbage. Sounds like you don't have an account setup at the ISP.
Adding to the other answers I've read, the basic setup is described in the 4.4.1 manual. I used 4.4 in the old days and I managed it quite easy with that. In cas you understand german, there are descriptions for modem access in the support db. But if you cannot use minicom to connect to your ISP, make sure your modem works from Linux, serial line is ok and the modem port defined. I am not sure wether there was a modem setup in yast, but be sure your modem works at first. you must see some incoming data from your provider.
