Done that 100s of times. It is real easy if you read the kernel source "README". The only problem is completely selecting all of your system needs. Take a look at "lsmod" and select most of the same modules. SuSE select about everything as modules so that any system needs can be met. You will need to learn about Nvidia modules and subfs. along with any special modules needed (wireless). Also about mkinitrd. The real advantage comes from you knowing your machine and all of the add beenifits of your CPU selection. You gain stability and control.
