I can update the packages of my SuSE 8.2 with yast2... but what will happen when SuSE 8.3 is released? Will there still be up-to-date packages available?
Yes, keep 8.2 up to date or you might have a security breach or something close. There is at least 1 security update for the 2.4.20 kernel that I know of. Yes, they will support 8.2 until it's 4th from newest in release so you've got quite a bit. This means they will update for security patches...so don't take that as they will build say KDE 4.0 packages when 9.2 is current (future tense) .. but if there is a security flaw in something that is needed such as SSH, NFS or the kernel then yes they will upgrade those.
Will it somehow be possible to update to SuSE 8.3 _without_ buying a new SuSE package ?
