Same here: setting a wallpaper for one workspace just sets the same for all eight of my workspaces (virtual desktops, actually; are we talking about the same thing at all, i.e. is workspace=desktop?). And no, this is not a visual gimmick: I need this feature to differentiate between my various areas of work at a glance. If you have, say, eight instances of a program open, each for performing a specific work task, it helps hugely to have eight different wallpapers or desktop colors to immediately warn you which task you're currently on. It really helps productivity, believe me. Actually, for me, it's the compelling reason (besides, uhm, overall desktop stability) why I just can't switch to KDE4 although I really want to. So, could anyone be so kind as to advise what steps to perform in order to set different wallpapers (or desktop background colors at least) for different virtual desktops in KDE4? Does this work in the default openSUSE11.1 install at all, or do you need to update KDE4 from some external repo? Regards, JB Dne petek 09 januar 2009 ob 00:54:14 je Milho napisal(a):
At first: sorry for the accusation... blame it on me the fact I forgot the cultural difference between our countries. Here, it could be normal, not offensive :( I got a little stressed seeing the way my topic follows... It is not anymore a discussion about how to set different wallpapers: it's a discussion about KDE's quality... It became a simple flame war, except for a little group that still discuss about the real problem. I tried here to set a wallpaper in each workspace, but it sets the same for every workspace. So, if there's any other option that have to be changed, please let us know. And I still don't know two things: when is KDE 4.2 being released? And is it coming with Suse 11.2? Thanks and sorry...

You could tell us how to do that, not only laugh at our face...
MilhoXP Sad, very sad...
Please, reply to the list. I answered your question in my other reply. I wasn't laughing in anyone's face, and I would appreciate it if you would take that childish accusation back and appologise.
I saw someone making a claim on this list (not being able to set different wallpapers). You should never take such claims for granted, but you should always try to simulate the problem. I tried it myself, but it didn't fail for me, and I reported that back to the list. That's all I did, in the spirit of cooperation.
