Follow-up to my earlier reply.
Nope, resetting jumpers and only using the one HD still produces exactly the same results.
But I have determined one thing: I have/had Xandros installed and the install of SuSE 9.2 stops dead at the start of the software installation and AFTER the partitions (/ and swap) had been formatted because now the Xandros loader cannot find the OS.
Cheers.
Ah, bad luck there then :-( sorry it didn't help. Have you got the 'Power Max' Maxtor software? It's freely downloadable from the Maxtor website as a bootable ISO image:
Go to the software downloads section on the left. I've used this before to do a low level format on a drive. Again, sorry if it doesn't help.
It is better to grab MaxBlast4 from their site which also contains PowerMax. The HDs were partitioned and formatted with MaxBlast4.
Ah, I deliberately didn't mention that one as I think it needs Windows software to boot from :-)
I could be wrong though.....I'll check my version.
There are 3 versions of it- one which goes on a floppy - bootable one which goes on a CD - bootable one which gets installed on an HD in Windows and is run from Windows. Cheers. -- The first myth of management is that it exists.
