** Reply to note from "Frank Pawlak" <fpawlak@execpc.com> Mon, 16 Feb 1998 11:32:45 -0600 I have found the XF86Setup to be rather unreliable on SuSE, Slackware, and Caldera. A couple friends of mine have found the same result. So I did the old xf86config reliable method.

I'm using the SuSE Matrox SVGA Server, set up using xf86config. Hope that helps.
Thanks, Arlen
Did you install these using YAST? Just checking to be sure that everything is installed right. I would also suggest downloading the XF86Setup package from suse and installing it using YAST, then try using it to get a stable X server configured.
I have the Millenium MGA card and this server and config script works well.
Let me know how it works out for you. Hope that this helps. Frank
What server are you using and how are you setting it up? Need more info on this to give you any suggestions. cheers, frank

I thought I had my 1024x768 modeline configured properly in my XF86Config file. I had verified it using xvidtune and used X successfully several times over a
week
period. Then all
of a sudden, this mode stopped displaying correctly. Now with each session I have re-xvidtune 1024x768 to get it to work (and apply the settings of course). Any changes to XF86Config to reflect a properly set 1024x768 don't seem to work. Everytime I startup with startx, I now anticipate using xvidtune over again.
My modeline settings are (the problem one):
85 1024 1074 1204 1380 768 820 823 917
I am running a 4M Matrox Mystique 220 card w/ a KTX monitor that can handle 50-90 Hz vertical and 30 KHz-64 KHz horizontal.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Arlen Carlson
