Hai guy.... I just wanna to share my greatest nightmare I have last night.. Last night I was trying to update my kernel 2.0.36 to version 2.2.0 (i don' t upgrade to kernel 2.2.3 since i think i want to patch it through up 2.2.3) But here, the story... after decompress, compiling the new kernel i reinstall the lilo which was on my boot sector. By the way, my computer is multiple os, which has 4 partition, 2 FAT32, 1 swap, and 1 linux partition. After rebooting, and choosing the linux os... my computer hang for ages...so, i restarted it. When it restarted, it say that no partition exits. That strange isn't? So, i try to reinstall it's master boot sector using fdisk /mbr. I check the partition and it show only C partition exists and take the whole of my hardisk . I reboot my computer and to my suprise, my windows 98 boot successfully without my error. But, I am damm scare because I have lost my D drive. All my final year project files are on that drive. My whole work for the last 6 six month is in that drive and i never backup on floppy. (by the way, my final year project consist of simulation using C++). At that time, the only word that I can said to myself is "How much more stupid can u be?". I try using norton unerase to recover my files especially, my *.cpp files. I think God still love me because i manage to recover all my text based file like *.cpp, *.h, *.doc, *.txt but I can not recover my *.xls, *.ppt and other files. If anyone can tell me how can I recover these files. I will be glad if you can help me. Two lessons I got today.... 1. never do something that u don't really know... eventhough others say it simple... remember they r expert( these statement refer to all of u) 2. Always back up my work.... don't be too confident Anyway, I really don't know what did I do wrong while updating my kernel... if you know... plz tell me...
