I have a computer setup with SuSE 8.1 and I have also setup Hylafax. The machine operates as a fax server for a long time now. I was wondering if it is possible to create a dialin service on the same modem as well? Currently Hylafax is using the only modem installed on the system.
I believe it is possible, but I don't know how. I know of at least one BBSs set to receive data and fax calls on the same modem, with OS/2 - so it should also be possible with Linux.
The trick is that the modem is capable of differentiating type of calls (voice, data, fax) and have a receiving program capable of passing off to the appropriate app.
I used to do that as well with OS/2 and Faxworks. It worked very well. I tried to do similar on Linux with mgetty, but it didn't work. I now have 2 modems on the same line. One for incoming and the other for outgoing.
