How solid is the support in X for the G450 or G550? Probably the G450 would be the one I'd look into, as I've read a bit and there doesn't seem to be much of a speed difference between the two in 2D, and the price difference is $88 vs. $103. I just want glitch-free operation out of the box and excellent high resolution support, something the nvidia cards don't seem to do very well. The last time I used 3D was playing Wolfenstein, and that was over a year ago. :)
Thanks,

This box with 8.2 uses a G550 and plays VariCAD just fine, but then so does the 7.2 box with a G450. No, I don't know enough to be testing the fancy stuff, just keeping my head above water doing CAD drawings for building construction projects.

If you want best quality 2D then go with the general consensus amongst those who fool around with Photoshop: Matrox cannot be beaten for quality 2D.
