And that is what is not working correctly in Linux (I don't have Windows to try). When I plug in the headphones at the front, the loudspeakers should mute, and the headphones should work.
This doesn't happen.
The loudspeakers go mute (correct), and the headphones play no sound (incorrect).
If I pull the jack half a millimeter, the "detection" fails and both play sound.
I wonder if that "detection" isn't a simple mechanical switch - in earlier days, it was certainly common enough on those minijack sockets.
I'm almost sure it is. I could perhaps disable the cable, but if I do, the mixer will not show a volume control for the headphones.
If you think it is a driver issue, you could try booting some live system (Knoppix, an older openSUSE etc).
I remembered that this issue has been there since ever, so older openSUSE I tried all of them since 2009 or so. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from openSUSE 15.3 (Legolas))
