So ... I'm curious, how do you guarantee fixed, known addresses for your machines? I tried searching, but google is not up-to-date with our archives. I feel so sure you mentioned something about a reserved range not used for dhcp.
I can use static leases defined in the router (there is a limited number of them, maybe 30),
Ah, maybe that is I'm thinking of.
or I configure a static address in the computer.
It won't help if dhcp has dished out a fixed address to somebody else.
Ah, that's something not feasible with my IPv6 (aside from ULA).
Well, your router seems to leave a lot to be desired.
But I think I was saying that I can not give guest machines IPs in a different LAN or VLAN. Not supported by my current hardware, AFAICS.
It doesn't have to be. You could simply keep your machines in a defined range that is never dished out by dhcp.
The wifi configuration of my current router page says, that it allows 64 guest clients. Says nothing about an VLAN for them.
Any VLAN would be assigned to the SSID, not the clients.
Ok, but no such a thing, AFAIK.
There is VLAN support, but can not assign an VLAN to the guest wifi config.
It is a pretty unusual thing to find in a consumer network. For one thing, you need managed switches which are also quite rare in a consumer network. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.6°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes (2016 - present) We're hiring - https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Heroes
