If you delete first, there is no way for YaST to know that you intend to install the same thing again (but an older version).
If the deletion is done thru yast, just as the original install was, when a new install is requested, then yast should be all that is needed to create / recreate whatever setup is needed, just as it did the first time. Yast should not remove/modify files that it can not create or reconfigure properly, no?
If you delete a package using yast, and complete the action, it is removed completely, including the init scripts. If you then install another version, the init scripts are written again - but inactive. Service is inactivated with that combination of actions, you have to activate it manually. Another consequence is that configuration files may be replaced with default files, not yours. All that is different if you use the replace or update action in Yast. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
