I decided to download the CD images rather than the DVD as i wasn't sure my connection would handle it. I used Ktorrent, and I got all 6 CD images which all matched the md5sum, and makeSUSEdvd worked a treat as well.
The bittorrent protocol has the capacity to check the downloaded files correctness by chunks, and redownload the parts that are bad. The final result is a perfect download. I have seen the curses client reconstruct a bad dvd download.
But I don't know if torrents are still available for the suse dvd :-?
The torrents are still available through the openSUSE site, but they failed the first time I used them. I did two ftp downloads, in less time then the one bit torrent (Left it running last night from a couple other places to, so I will recheck tonight). As for the reply about downloading the cd's and running makeSUSEdvd, that was what I first did (before the dvd was available). I since retried it due to the updated makeSUSEdvd and autoyast scripts. Still I get no catalog found at ***************, I did try the known fixes (different media, different burn speed, dropping out loading udf, etc, etc, etc). All of the cd's have the correct md5 sums, I am just trying to use the dvd for simplicity sake (one of the things I wish to mess with learning is remote install, as if I have a server somewhere). I am just hoping someone can tell me what mirror they used, because I am unsure whether there was a bug they patched, releashed a different iso (and failed to update the md5 sums), something is happening during my recieveing of it (garbage in), or I am finding someones "makeSUSEdvd" listed as the released.
I came home to find a couple of good downloads on my machine (1 via ftp and 1 via torrent), so to help eliminate the problem I have had, I have left the torrent going. Burned it, and installed (although haven't updated everything like dvd, etc). Won't be able to play much untill the weekend.
