hello from a newbie, i recently tried v11 and was so frustrated with the kde4 interface that i got a copy of v10.3. i read where someone on the list had the choice of the kde3 or kde4 desktop. my copy of v11 didn't give me that option. i have used 10.3 before, but only for a short time, so i'm still a newbie at linux. what frustrated me about kde4 was that i couldn't get into root to change my desktop setup. i knew that v10.3 had an admin button to allow such activity, that's why i went back. i'm far from being a programmer and my knowledge base for doing things from the command line is extremely limited. v10.3 came with firefox 2.0.0.16 and ooo 2.3.?. what i did was uninstall the two programs and reinstalled them after setting up my reposotories. now i have firefox 3.0.1 and ooo 2.4.1. i find that v11 kde4 is not very user friendly if you are new to linux, that's why i went back to v10.3 because of some prior experience and for the minimal level of customization i needed tp perform. i would like to make the return to v11 for some updated programs that are not available in v10.3. so here's the question. based upon my experience of deleting firefox and ooo and reinstalling them and getting the most recent version, can i uninstall kde4 and install kde3 and be able to run the kde3 desktop with no side effects in v11? cheers, dwain -- "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
