What I really need you to do is to find out what is loading the aic7xxx module in your kernel and stop it from doing so. Then, once you get the system booted without the module, you should be able to try to manually insmod the module and get me the logging information. The easiest way is to
do something like:
tail -f /proc/kmsg > /tmp/kernel.output
I have removed aic7xxx from loading from the kernel. This lets me do a 'normal' boot from lilo without a hitch. (this was a problem ;) It also shows that : <4>scsi : 0 hosts. <4> scsi : detected total. <4> partition check: Now I have tried several things in the last few days: 1) insmod the module aic7xxx a) this halted tty1 and there was no recovery from it. b) So I don't know how to get you the info you requested. 2) tail -f /proc/kmsg > /tmp/kernel.output a) this seamed not to work and just stagnated until ctrl x was pressed. 3) I have tried an append="aic7xxx =no_reset" in LILO with aic7xxx5.0.5 in kernel a) this did the exact same thing Time-out; trying harder loop. 4) When recompiling the kernel to change around some things, I set the scsi support to module and load with direct kernel support (two times) with under Low-level scsi support under the aic7xxx with a time-out of 10 instead of the normal '5' a) is this a good place to check this? i could try up to a 20 in that area.should I try it? I got a response from the SuSE guys, and they said They have indeed put the aic7xxx patches on a kernel of theirs called 2.0.33-suse . The lx-suse kernel So I did go get that tar ball and I did compile the source. It did indeed have the patched aic7xxx 5.0.5. But this also had the same (exact) problems I have had before. Except for not having a dead stop while searching for connected devices, it LOOPS now. Guys {SuSE} I am still having problems with this damn SCSI card, I have already said that the SuSE 5.1 Distro boot disk WILL load the SCSI fine and I am able to use everything fine. But under a normal LILO boot it will not, even with the no_reset append line or the kernel having direct load of aic7xxx or loading aic7xxx as a module, all temination is fine from what I can see. If the distros boot disk can load it, why cant the normal system. Help!
