Could you attach your XF86Config file?
Not really - SaX2 wasn't creating a new one. I've attached one from
/tmp/sax2-XXXX where you will see that sax2 is setting the H sync range
to 31-37 and the v sync range to 50-60. Not a good thing.

I also noticed that at one point I managed to get an error in the SaX
log indicating that glxinfo couldn't find libXda.so.1. I think this
confirms what I've thought for a while - there are reminents of the Xig
AcceleratedX drivers floating around my system even though I uninstalled
the two Xig rpm's, reinstalled mesa*.rpm, and have been running with
nvidia 4191 for a couple of months.

After a couple more hours of trial and error I managed to get SaX2 to
run with the latest nvidia drivers installed. However, when I selected
"change" to manually config the display, a dialog box titled "xapi"
stopped with a message "keyboard still locked - please wait" which sat
there for several minutes before I cancelled it.

I then copied by my old XF86Config (which I of course backed up before
starting this process) back to /etc/X11 and X started up. It still chugs
about a bit trying different display resolutions, but it does start.
I've attached that one here as well as XF86Config.jjl.

By the way, the new nvidia drivers look very nice. Although some of the
improvement may also be XFree86 4.3. Bascially, if this stays running
I'm happy.
