Hi
I'm trying to run Transgamings winex to play games using 8.2. I have the latest version of winex plus the point to play gui. The issue I'm finding is with pthreads which according to the Transgaming docs is a problem with some distros. I'm not sure what pthreads is, one of the error messages I got seemed to relate it to the version of GCC available.
So my questions are :
anybody running 8.2 with winex successfully and if so did you have this problem and how did you solve it ?
what exactly is pthreads ?
Thanks
Mike
Ok, first of all you do not need to install both WineX 3.1.1 or P2P 1.1.1. If you want to use the P2P then install that - it has WineX with it (I recommend getting the complete/large pkg with all the python stuff in it - it won't interfere with the system python, at least I've had absolutely no problems). If you install both winex 3.1 and p2p 1.1.1 then you have 2 (yes two) intallations of winex (on from winex and one from p2p) and this give the rpm data base fits (not to mention having to track down each winex/p2p package and manually delelte them - ugh, take my word - not fun). So, if you have both install rm them both and reinstall only the "one" your going to use. On the subject of pthreads. I definitely recommend using pthreads. In the p2p package, under install, their is the option for "Use Pthreads" with AutoDetect, Force Off, and Force On. I use the Force on. And then you can go in after the game is installed you can configure the game by selecting the game (left side) and then select the executable icon (right side), then another window will open and select the game exe again and on the right side will be options with checks or pulldowns. At the bottom is the same options for Use Pthread - do the same that you did for the install. 8.2 uses pthreads (its the kernel) and this will help you get things up and running nicely - depending on the game. Realize that it also depends on the game. Fallout and Diablo II (as well as balders gate) run nicely, though there have been some reports of problems with some people. What game are you trying to install?
