You just count them, from the start of the file there are 4 pages.
Notice that "contents" is page "II", because there is a "cover" page
before that. "Essentials" is page 5.
Okular doesn't look at the page number, it just counts them. As you
must. Yes, they could show a little window with the actual page number
shown.
