This didn't work for me either. Use Eclipse from openSuSE repo.

I use Eclipse 3.3 on openSuSE 10.3 on Athlon64. Try to update your java machine to v 1.6
I tried it before and didn't work.
To run Eclipse 3.3 first I downloaded the tarball from Eclipse.org and then run the eclipse C executable, which should load the IDE but it doesn't.
The eclipse tar ball package that i installed from their website works fine, and i am able to run the "eclipse" executable... but when i installed eclipse through yast, that doesn't work and it throws the same error which it throws for you. btw if ur using the eclipse tar ball package you may need to unzip jdk somewhere (/usr/local for me) and set the JAVA_HOME and add the $JAVA_HOME\bin path in the PATH variables manually.
