I'm new to Linux and I'm really confused how to work with MDI(multi document interface) apps like Gimp where all the components are opened in their own window as opposed to opening all in one window of the app (SDI). Where I run into trouble is when I'm moving between applications and then want to get back to the MDI app, like Gimp. Say I'm working on a website where I'm writing html links to images in and editor. I'm also switching over and working on creating those images in Gimp. How do you quickly switch between applications? In windows I would just alt-tab between the windows I'm working on, but with a MDI set up each alt-tab brings you to a separate window component. There must be an easier way to accomplish what I'm trying to do. I suppose I could just keep minimizing the other applications I'm working on and then restoring them as need be, leaving Gimp with the main focus not being minimized. This seems like a lot of wasted tasks though. It's definitely quicker to just bounce back and forth quickly between apps you are working on. Is there a way to lock the MDI windows so they all restore when you bring any one of them back into focus? Thanks for any tips. -- Rick
