Octave on SuSE 8.2

Dear my friends.... Anybody use octave (http://www.octave.org)? I tried to compile it but none of the versions works on SuSE Linux 8.2 . I am using SuSE 8.2 . I need this kind of software to do my research for my study. Kalamaris is still far than eligible to be used in works. I think octave is the best for my demand till now.
