Some tools I have used to create an iso, use /tmp. For instance, k3b, I just looked: the default destination is "/tmp/kde-cer/". That can be about 4.7 GB per disk.

yes but can be changed very easily - and k3b *do not* accept tmp files bigger than free space - the free space is shown in the config and write window - as it have to be.
I speak mostly of setting a dvd in the reader and clic install, all default
But most serious users customize the defaults.
defaults, by definition, should accommodate the majority. There where some long discussion(s) here about the need of having a separate /home, and this is where the /tmp problem come, as in most cases it's home that needs to be hudge and it's the default for openSUSE now, but sometime it's not. That said to go back to the subject, /tmp in tmpfs would be a strong commitment to have large files elsewhere, and making it easy to move from one distribution to an other (upgrade) is a strong reason to keep /home separate. so the right way depends of your usage :-( jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
