I rebooted....still no 'base. I'm about to find something that doesn't take an act of Congress to get to work.

<p>Fred, after you ran the install script did you change the configuration file? I think I told you about it in one of your first posts. If you re-boot without having made the change then mysqld won't start automatically on a re-boot. I'll admit that if you don't know all the details it seems pretty tricky. But if you read all the documentation you'll find that the process is laid out like this: 1. Install mysql from the pay series on the CD's (might be a different series in 6.4) 2. Run the mysql_install_db script 3. Either start the server using ./bin/safe_mysqld & or change the configuration file using yast1 The way SuSE have done it is actually very flexible and safe. If after you installed mysql it automatically started every time you re-boot (which I think was the setup in Mandrake 6.?) then some people would be running mysql when they didn't need it and would have a higher overhead than necessary. Stick with it. You're very close. Jethro -- ------------------------------------------------------- Linux, Windows, DOS.
