John,
FWIW, I just upgraded my main desktop machine from KDE 4.10 to 4.11 using the KDE_Release_411 repository and it seems to be mostly very stable. I've had a couple of minor glitches where the plasma desktop has apparently crashed and automatically restarted, but this has not affected running applications nor caused any data loss. I've not tried deleting the usual suspect rc files and starting again because, so far, it doesn't seem to be worth the trouble.
Then again, I've not noticed any huge improvements (in my particular case) between 4.10 and 4.11 either, except for KMail 2, which does seem noticeably better. For me, the upgrade was worth it even if only for that.
Yes I did the same yesterday, and had no problems other than Amarok needing something not yet available, but I dimply told it not to update that and everything went very smoothly. Of course I am also using the latest X11 repository. This version of KDE + X11 has my legacy Radeon X1400 video card working so smoothly that there is no performance penalty for running with desktop effects on. Not seeing any video tearing in either case. Nepomuk does in fact index my ebooks, and I can search for phrases or words in my ebook collection. Searching in Kmail is still pretty much a disappointment. Even though nepomuk is said to index mail, I haven't found the search to be of much use. It won't find names in mails that I can find manually. It only appears to search the current folder. And nepomuk never seems to use any significant CPU resource or disk thrashing. It did take several hours to grind thru everything and re-index it in the new format. I was never inconvenienced by this. Some stuff alleged to be in 4.11, mouse battery monitoring, I can't seem to find, but that might just be hardware. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
