Hello there, I have an old server with a SCSI DAT, and amongst other things an IDE cd writer. The following happend with kernels 2.2.16.SuSE and 2.4.2 (not SuSE) <BIG FAT WARNING> If you test the following, do it in single user mode with all your disks mounted read-only. (And if you don't know what I mean, do not do it at all!) </BIG FAT WARNING> Here goes: make the DAT busy with for example: mt erase & On my DDS2 that will take a few hours. next do the following cdrecord -scanbus after that it is time on my machine to do a hard reset! Reallly _every_ process (but the mt erase) is halted! Even the magiq SySRq will not help. You might say: "Don't do that!" But hey, what else is there to do while waiting for the tape to be erased than compile that CD with music for the car etc. etc. So I was wondering if this error can be replicated on other machines? Is there someone who (c/d)ares to test? BB, Arjen
