It really is a good idea to google the prospective model to find out if it works easily on Linux. Or, as some people do, take a live USB distro to the store and boot it right there.
There are people making linux-friendly machines. In UK, for example, Entroware are good, in the US, System76. I don't know about continental Europe but I'd be surprised if there isn't a company doing it there as well.
