Whenever a vendor retires a product and replaces it with a new product, some of the legacy uses will have a problem. I personally like many of the features of YaST1, but more in the teaching the old dog new tricks category. But, I think that Alex hit on some important issues. Businesses that are remotely maintaining their systems via scripts will need to make changes. I would think that SuSe probably should address that in their FAQs by showing some examples of what some people might have been doing with YaST1 and how they can do the same thing with YaST2. In the past several months I have used YaST2 more and more, but I still go to YaST1 to quickly change the network settings. This weekend, when I move to 8.0, which I just bought, I'll be totally weened off of my dependence. But, the bottom line is that a howto transition from YaST1 to YaST2 for system administration would go a long way to help the business system admin to make the transition to YaST2 and keep them in the SuSE fold. As a LUG leader, I use Red Hat, Mandrake and SuSE in our installfests. I want to get the users up and running quickly. SuSE and Mandrake tend to be better. This last installfest, SuSE 7.3 didn't fare too well. We don't have the time to be patient and experiment. Especially since some of my volunteers showed up late and some of the participants showed up early. -- Jerry Feldman Portfolio Partner Engineering 508-467-4315 http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/linux/ Compaq Computer Corp. 200 Forest Street MRO1-3/F1 Marlboro, Ma. 01752
