In fact, this is a Seagate 8TB drive, but it's obviously not doing too well. :-)
Did `smartctl -a /dev/sdd` ever show the correct size? Could be the drive is just not in the smartctl database yet and it is interpreting the 8TB size incorrectly (obviously incorrectly) I usually run a short-test on each drive after I install it and redirect the output to a file to save. (keeps a record of what was shown initially) Along with the fdisk (or sfdisk) and mdadm information. -- David C.
