Hi
I have an IBM x346 server running Suse SLES 9.2 2.6.5-7.139-bigsmp When I reboot by typing init 6 or reboot the shutdown process hangs. The last message on the console is "Please standby whilst system is rebooted"
I have checked the /var/log/messages file and the only entry while shutting down is as follows
Dec 22 11:19:10 init: Switching to runlevel: 6 Dec 22 11:19:16 sshd[5027]: Received signal 15; terminating. Dec 22 11:19:17 kernel: Kernel logging (proc) stopped. Dec 22 11:19:17 kernel: Kernel log daemon terminating. Dec 22 11:19:18 3 exiting on signal 15 Dec 22 11:26:20 syslogd 1.4.1: restart.
I have to hit the reset button to get the server to restart
Has anyone seen this issue before
I had such an issue with one server that could only restart if you shut it down, hit the power-off button and then switch it on again. Impossible to reboot the server from remote. In my case it was the hardware SCSI RAID installation, that was a bit iffy. I got it to work by using better cables and terminators. You might also check the manual of your mainboard, if another slot on your mainboard might offer better support for your controller. Sandy -- List replies only please!
