Hi !
I am thinking of repartitioning my HD using fips 2.0, but are a bit concerned about the warnings in the dicumentation about it. (I can't use fips 1.5 as I have FAT32.)
Some maybe positive some negative. I am __negative. DON'T USE IT!! (sorry for the shouting) :) Shell out the money for partition magic to make some free space and you will sleep very well. I have used fips20 on my laptop to split a 6 Gig drive in two for a FAT32 and EXT2 partition. This is what happened. The fips doc says that fips only adjusts the partition table and not the FAT for windows. This should be no problem the docs say. Windows just keeps reporting the original size. But in my case it also kept using it. I was making an emergency backup from a file server to my laptop and tried to get as much as possible so I selected everything. And went a way to do something else. To my surprise I got almost 4 Gig of the server volume (all of it) while I was sure I only had 1 left on that partition. I could access all the data without error, but when I started loadlin it complained about it could not find some silly root partition :-((((( Win95 just overwrote my EXT2 partition without error, you can kick me around, but it __DID! I cursed myself quite a lot that day, repaired the server, flushed my backup onto it and went out and bought myself partition magic. And started recreating my linux setup. It was almost as bad as the time my laptop was stolen...
