Please is there any way to fdisk suse 6.3 without going throught the yast. I tried to partition 10gb drive with /boot, /swap, /, /usr_local, and /home_local. my problem is i could not partition /home_local and usr_local because the f6 new partition grey out on me.
To call fdisk without YaST, just issue the command: fdisk <drive to parition> for example: fdisk /dev/hda However, I would use YaST. The reason why I think the F6 key greyed out on you was because you had already created 4 primary paritions. Due to the size of the parition table, there is only enough space to store entries for partitions. If you want to create more partitions, you must create an extended partition, and make logical partitions inside this. What I would do is go back into YaST, and create 3 primary partitions. Next, instead of creating another primary parition, you select 'extended' when given the choice. After that, you should be able to create more 'logical' partitions inside the extended. Linux has no problem with its root partition being a logical partition, but if you have Windows on that drive as well, that *must* be in a primary partition.
