First off, sorry about my double typo, I should have written tcsh (opps! guess I'm developing dislexia :( The other thing is, maybe check the config.log if it was even able to generate one. Have you been trying it as root? I can do ./configure as normal user, but just a thought in case it is a permission elsewhere. Maybe the config file is damaged?
