I have upgraded kde to 3.1.3 using apt. When I try to use the Audio CD browser function which worked before I get the error Protocol not supported. cdparanoia and grip still work. What can I do to put this right please ?
kscd, kio_audio and quite a few other things were left out of the 3.1.3 for various reasons..partly kde.org's fault and partly SuSE's fault. They are ALL suppose to return with 3.1.4 according to the package maintainer at SuSE but even though SuSE is a major KDE supporter they've not posted 3.1.4 pkgs on either ftp.suse.com or ftp.kde.org which is kinda funny since RH posted them promptly and RH hasn't given a crap about KDE really ever. *shrug* If you want to remedy this for the short term until the new 3.1.4 packages arrive then do this. 1. Go get this script from me..and put it in say /usr/local/bin. http://www.whack.org/~ben/unrpm 2. Download this rpm .. You can get it here.. (ftp://ftp.gwdg.de:0/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.2-i386/RPMS.kde/) kdemultimedia3-3.1.3-9.i586.rpm Make a directory in /tmp (or anywhere) called unrpm an move the kde rpm into it. The execute the unrpm script against it. This will unpack it into /tmp/unrpm/opt then just tar up that directory like so.. tar cvf opt.tar opt Note: tar up the opt in /tmp/unrpm not /opt but /tmp/unrpm/opt Then mv it to / and untar it. This will return a workable kscd and kio_audio to you so that you can use Konq to browse and rip cd's. This is not something I would advocate normally but when things don't work..ya gotta do some weird shit sometimes and this is the easy way. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
