I have used metrox, accelx and xfree, and it must just depend on what card you use. I currently have an s3, and I get the best results from the SuSE xfree xs3v server. As far as sound goes, I don't think James cares what drivers you use :). oss is pretty much for people whose sound card isn't supported by the kernel drivers, otherwise sound is sound. I mark my purchase of AcceleratedX as the top upgrade to a stock Linux box. There is only 2 commercial "must haves" in my book and they are AccelX and OSS.
I'm sitting at 1600x1200 at 24bpp and with the Millenium married to a ViewSonic 20" monitor, it sure is nice.
Of course I'm enjoying some good ole' James Taylor in the background thanks to OSS/Linux.
