Guys,
I forgot the biggie for kde 4.4. For some reason there is this thing called bonobo that cause gnome appearance to crash in gnome. How do I tell bonobo not to keep running so I can run Gnome again?
Ummm... isn't bonobo a Gnome component? As far as I know, bonobo has nothing to do with KDE at all. And to top it off... it's a deprecated Gnome component.

You are correct, The gnome error said bonobo or kde component. I didn't draw the distinction. Additional testing shows it is some part of kde 4.4 that is crashing gnome-settings-daemon on gnome in 11.2. Any suggestions? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
