Still can't get power management to work on my laptop. Under 9.1 I learned that I had to disable ACPI with ACPI=off in Grub's menu.lst, since the motherboard aparantly doesn't support ACPI. Suspend to disk worked in 9.1. Power off when shutting down worked. Different settings of APM=xxx (on, shut-down, debug) in grub has been tried, but it seems as it doesn't try to suspend at all. Not sure if apm is supposed to work at all. If I try apmsleep +0:01 I get this message: ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device Does this mean anything?
