I see it saying it is looking at metadata for updates, so it must think it knows where to find some. A service-list says:
# | Enabled | Refresh | Type | Name | URI --+---------+---------+------+-------------------------+-------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | Yes | Yes | YaST | 20061219-202641 | http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.2/repo/non-oss/ 2 | Yes | Yes | YUM | SUSE-Linux-10.2-Updates | http://ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/update/10.2
I'm using the one available at <ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/suse/update/10.2/> and already had a bunch of updates for my installation of openSUSE 10.2, e.g. Firefox, GPG or ImageMagick.

Are there really no updates yet from the original DVD iso image?
Definitely not. If you want to be notified for available (official) updates, subscribe to the SUSE Security Announcements list.
